Why Hacker Threats Have Created a Boom in Cybersecurity Recruitment

Why Hacker Threats Have Created a Boom in Cybersecurity Recruitment With cyber-attacks increasing across the world, so does the demand for cyber-security jobs. In an uncertain world, hackers are outpacing government and corporate defences, and one of the main reasons is poor cybersecurity. The global cybersecurity skills shortage has left many companies and nations vulnerable to attacks. A reported 86% of global business and IT professionals believe there is a shortage of cybersecurity professionals. These are the conclusions of the 2015 Global Cybersecurity Status Report by the ISACA. The global shortage has created an immediate risk to corporations and governments, many of whom are vulnerable to hacking because of their inadequate defences. Unsurprisingly, hackers are deliberately targeting organisations who don’t have the cyber professionals to keep them safe. Cyber skills shortage From Singapore to San Francisco, there are currently not enough candidates with the cyber skills to keep our economies safe from hackers. An Intel Security report revealed that 82% of eight major economies have complained of a cybersecurity skills shortage. In response to the cyber skills crisis, there is a growing demand for candidates who can oversee intrusion detection, secure software development, and attack mitigation. With the current skills shortage unlikely to be reversed anytime soon, the demand for cybersecurity professionals is expected to  grow by 53% by 2018. Cybersecurity investment The global financial sector has been looking to increase their cybersecurity apparatus for years now, with banks three times more likely to be targeted by hackers than non-financial institutions. According to Intel Security, five banks alone have spent more than $1.5 billion on cybersecurity. The financial sector spends more on cybersecurity products and services than any other private sector industry, and this boom will only increase the demand for more security engineers and analysts. Peter Kelly, Senior Principal at Computer Futures: Cybersecurity is obviously an immediate threat to all businesses, of all shapes and sizes. This immediacy to act before it is too late has seen an increased demand for security professionals with our customers and is growing on a weekly basis across the globe, where Computer Futures has expanded its cyberSecurity offering to supply Europe, America, Japan and Singapore. The main issue we are finding is that there is a lack of experienced cybersecurity professionals on the market to fill pivotal roles and current students studying the necessary qualifications will not get the relevant experience to be qualified and considered for such roles, for a few more years. This is why we  are working with educational and professional bodies to help alleviate the skills shortages in these business critical roles. Recruitment opportunities According to Peninsula Press analysis of the US Bureau of Labor statistics, more than 209,000 cybersecurity jobs in the United States are currently vacant, and job adverts have risen by 74% in the past five years. In short, the cybersecurity market job market is booming, and recruiters have a lucrative opportunity to place candidates, if they can find them. The growing demand for cyber experts is ensuring that information security is one of the best paid jobs in the US.  Cybersecurity jobs in the United States pay an average of $6,500 more than other IT professions. The premium for technical skills in this field is currently valued higher than management and communication ability. Recruiters who can successfully place candidates in this field will be handsomely rewarded. In the United States, the highest paying cybersecurity job for a lead software engineer is  $233k per year. This is nearly $8,000 more annually than a chief information security officer (CISO) salary, which has traditionally been a role with far greater managerial responsibilities. With the low number of cybersecurity candidates, the top five average salaries in the US currently ranges from $178k to $233k and demand is expected to grow well into the 2020s. Such is the cybersecurity skills scarcity, the value of salaries in Western economies has grown by at least  2.7 times the average wage. Will demand drop in future? There is no evidence to suggest the cybersecurity market will slow down anytime soon. Cyberattacks are becoming more prevalent and harmful, and no organisation will ever be immune to attacks. With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), the potential for hackers to infiltrate and disrupt organisations will only further increase the demand for cybersecurity. Recruiters therefore have a huge opportunity to search and place candidates in cybersecurity roles. Cybersecurity recruitment is going to be the first line of defence, and to prevent attacks, you need a robust recruitment strategy â€" and for that, you need a specialist cybersecurity agency. Modis and Stott and May are two recruitment agencies specialising in this area. With experienced candidates in short supply, it will take a gifted recruiter to prize away a leading candidate from a big company. In response to the cyber skills shortage, Stott and May have their own in-house ‘Centre of Excellence’, where every consultant receives specialist training in cybersecurity. This centre helps ensure their staff can place highly skilled candidates that companies and organisations desperately need. Adam Hawkins, Managing Director, Modis; 2016 saw a shift within cybersecurity hiring. Traditional contract roles, such as Analysts Penetration Testers, were still high on the demand scale but we saw a considerable increase in Corporate organisations moving away from hiring solely on a contract basis. Our clients are recognising the need for a consistent, long term security strategy; with many CROs and CIOs ensuring cybersecurity is a focused division within their organisations. This has resulted in a large increase in the demand of permanent cyber professionals from Analyst to Architect level. With permanent candidates demanding salaries of over 25% more than other skilled ICT professions due to the increasing skill shortage and the historic desire for cyber professionals to work on a contract basis. In 2017, the war for talent will be fierce; we only envisage the skills gap widening and the upward demand trend of permanent cyber roles continuing.  Cybersecurity candidates can be found in IT departments, startups or even the military. For recruiters to place cybersecurity staff, they will need to develop a comprehensive network of contacts and resources to succeed. The United States in particular will have to fill  100,000s of cybersecurity roles over the next decade. To meet the demand, the recruitment options include cross-training existing IT staff and getting undergraduates into cybersecurity training courses, or importing candidates from other countries. With more universities, colleges and companies investing in this field, there has never been a more lucrative time for recruiters to source a cybersecurity candidate. Whatever solution recruiters embrace, there is no doubt that cybersecurity is a key battleground for all major companies, and reducing the skills gap will be a matter of critical importance in the months and years ahead.

Should an Executive Recruiting Agency or Headhunter Charge Candidates

Should an Executive Recruiting Agency or Headhunter Charge Candidates The easy answer to this one is no. However, there are professionally managed job search firms that will charge candidates to deliver an unmatched premium service.Let me explain. If you’re an executive-level job seeker you may or may not have worked with an executive recruiting agency or headhunter in the past. For those who have, you probably have never directly paid a recruiting agency or headhunter for their services. In my opinion, if you find yourself in the position to be charged directly make a dash for the exit. Here’s How the Recruiting Process WorksThe recruiting process is not necessarily a simple one but can be broken down in a few steps to help you get a better picture of what the role of the recruiter actually is.The Hiring Need - In the first step of the process, the recruiter is diving into the needs of the client (the company looking to hire) to develop a clear job description that will drive a good pool of qualified candidates once posted to job boards. Sourcing - T his is where recruiters get to sift through countless resumes to match the requirements and qualifications of the job description with potential candidates. Screening - At this stage, the recruiter can begin reaching out to candidates who appear to be a good fit for the position. Expect either a quick phone interview or to be called into the office to demonstrate your interview skills. Interview - Those that make the shortlist are passed along to the hiring manager of the client to conduct an interview to narrow down the best-fit candidate. Are you what the hiring manager is looking for? Offer - Woohoo! The final and most important step is the offer. This is where the recruiter can start to visualize dollar signs.Recap: If you noticed a theme leaning pretty heavily toward the client then you’re on the right track. But how do recruiters actually get paid if you don’t?How the Recruiter Gets Paid The company looking to hire pays the recruiting agency or headhunter a percentage of t he negotiated salary of the selected candidate. Some simple math: Let’s say, the recruiting agency applies a fee of 35% to the company for the placement of a candidate. After successfully filling the position, the candidate agrees to a $120,000 salary. The company will then pay the recruiter $42,000 for their services.Depending on the approval of both parties the recruiter or headhunter can be paid upfront for their services, after a successful hire, or a percentage of the payment before or after hire.At this point once a candidate has been hired the negotiated percentage of the new hire's salary is paid to the recruiting agency for a successful placement. So what’s the deal with these professionally managed job search firms. Why do they charge, you ask?Check this out.The Job Search CrewYou can honestly just call them the “stress relievers.”There are a few pretty big thoughts that come to your mind when setting out on a new job search. Some that pop into my head:How do I go ab out updating my resume? There are so many applications to fill out. I have a LinkedIn, but my network is small. I’m not as interview savvy as I thought. You are in luck!A professionally managed job search firm like Find My Profession is the cure for your worries. Not only will your job search firm take care of refining your resume they will eliminate the tiring task of filling out application after application.Sure, you may think that is a pretty good deal, but to take it up another step the long-overdue LinkedIn profile makeover allows you take a bit of a breather while your dedicated team takes over the growing of your network through a profile designed to stand out.Tighten up your interview skills for the next one, so that you can exemplify just what a hiring manager is looking for in a candidate. So Why Do They Charge Me?Ultimately, your job search team doesn’t make any money off of the company that you decide to accept a position with. From the moment that you are brought on as a client, you can rest assured that you took real action in landing that next job. Yes, you can hire a recruiter or headhunter to find you a job.Key Point: The professionally managed job search firm is working with you to find that next position. Taking a look at your skills and desires for that role you’ve been searching for, but not really knowing where to start is where the management firm comes in. With your team the company isn’t the one finding the right fit, instead, they’re looking to find the right company fit for you.

3 Things I Learned From Unplugging From My Digital Devices For 3 Days

3 Things I Learned From Unplugging From My Digital Devices For 3 Days Last week I took part in the Thanksgiving Unplugged challenge and unplugged from my digital devices on Thanksgiving Day. Since my family celebrated Thanksgiving on Friday this year, it turned into two days of unplugging. Then Saturday rolled around and I really was enjoying not having to check my phone constantly. I loved being disconnected with Facebook and Twitter.so I took another day off. After three days of unplugging, I felt rejuvenated and ready to get back to my online life. I really enjoyed those three days of unplugging way more than I thought I would. I also learned a lot. Three days off made me realize how addicted I really am to my digital devices and how much my brain just needed a break. It made me remember what it was like just a few years ago when I didn’t even have email on my phone, let alone a Facebook account. I know we all have our online lives right now, but we cant forget to live our lives offline as well. 3 Lessons I learned From Unplugging For 3 Days: Clear Your Temptations Before Your Unplug:  On Wednesday night as I was starting to log off of everything, I couldn’t even figure out how to log out of Twitter on my phone. It literally took me five minutes and a Google search to figure out how to do it. They don’t make it easy to unplug!   I had to log out of everything on my phone so that I had no temptation to login. A few times during the three days I opened up my phone to check Facebook but I realized that I would have to put in my name and password in again, and that was enough to get me not to look. Unplug To Get Clarity: My three days of unplugging consisted of movies, family, friends, sleep, and books. It also consisted of a lot of thinking about my priorities. When I started my unplug challenge, I was stressed about a few things in my life. After a few days of just letting them go, I realized that those things weren’t that big of a deal. They weren’t worth worrying and stressing about and really weren’t something that I even wanted to continue to pursue. Unplugging brought major clarity to my priorities. I realized that I had been so focused on the failure of one thing for so long that I forgot to see all of the other successes that I had. What I thought was a failure really wasn’t, it was a learning and growing experience. If I hadn’t stepped back, I really think I would be continuing down a wrong direction and not the one that I know will bring me happiness in the long run. Unplug to Be Present:  While unplugging I wasn’t distracted by what was going on online and my husband even noticed that I was more present. I would ask questions and have more discussion.   I didn’t need to retreat from the family Thanksgiving to see what was going on online. All I cared about was my family and friends that I was talking to at that moment in time.  Being unplugged made me see how much other people aren’t present. My husband would be on Facebook during a conversation and I would get so annoyed. But, that is how I normally am! Everywhere I looked I saw people on their phones while walking, shopping or eating. I don’t want to miss a moment being consumed by non-important information on my phone. I would rather stay present with the people who are really important to me. I loved those three days so much that I have now decided to do this unplugging on a weekly basis by unplugging on my nights and weekends. I also have a goal of unplugging for a week over Christmas. It really was so beneficially for me to have this time that I really think you should do it, too. If you are like me, you need this unplug break to realize how dependent you are on your digital devices. You need to see how your mind is always working and thinking about what other people are doing on social media. What matters is here and now and what we do with each moment offline, not what is on Facebook. Do you unplug? What have you learned while unplugging?

Personality type master class Four-day webinar with Penelope

Personality type master class Four-day webinar with Penelope This webinar will  show you how to leverage your strengths by understanding  personality type.  It includes  four days of of video sessions and email-based course materials.    You can purchase this webinar for anytime, on-demand access. The cost is $199. Buy it now. The most popular webinar Ive done is about personality type. Ive taught  thousands of people  how to crack the code on personality type to get what they want in life. But you know what? The on-deamand webinar that people have been downloading is really bad video quality. And people complain. To be honest, its mostly the ISTJs who complain, and ISTJs hate personality type anyway, because it is in their nature to hate everything except  what is perfectly logical to them. But even if I ignored the ISTJs, which, being an ENTJ, I am inclined to do, it is still true that the video quality of the webinar stinks. So Im  doing a second round of the course. I could tell you that the course is so so fun and everyone loves it. But maybe you would think Im saying that only because its so fun for me to make money from the course. So heres proof:  Melissa and I started doing the courses together when Melissa was always on the verge of not making rent. But since then, Melissa has taken everything she knows about personality type and turned it into a recruiting business and shes on track to make half a million dollars this year. Can you believe it? Even as I write this, Im shocked. So, anyway, you can be sure that I am not paying Melissa six figures to do this course with me, but shes doing it with me anyway, because we have so much fun. The courses we do together always make us so happy, and we love meeting the people who attend, and I sort of feel like I am inviting you to a party and not a webinar. Although I am charging you. But I think you get the point. I am going to have to tell you what youll get from the course because I know people like to know that: You will find out all the terrible aspects of each personality type. You will find out why your boss misses deadlines, why your spouse cant stop arguing with you, and why you are not a millionaire by now. You will find out essential tidbits about everyones strengths. For example ENTPs are the most adventurous in bed and ISTPs are the most competent in bed. Quickpick which trait is more important to you. Did you pick? The course will also show you why you picked what you did. I will show you tricks for memorizing traits of each type. For example, its hard to memorize that INTJs like to make elegant plans for complex problems, and ENTJs like to lead people with a big all-encompassing plan. But its easy to memorize how  if an INTJ were going to commit a crime it would be murder and if an ENTJ were going to commit a crime it would be racketeering. The reason Im fanatically in love with learning about personality type is that its helped me so much in my life. Understanding what motivates me, and the people around me, has made me a better sales person, a better mom and a better wife. When I want to tell my brother to shut up, I remember his personality type and I remind myself what he really means when he says what it is that I want him to shut up about. The best part of personality type, though, is that when I coach people they think Im a mind reader. Almost all the time. The truth is that my coaching is a combination of two things: My ability to know what people are thinking and feeling based on their personality type, and my ability to say things to people that no one else will tell them. I like that people tell me Im clairvoyant, but you can get that too. Well, you can get the part where you can see it. Im not sure if you can get the part where you will say it. That might be a special trait that gets you selected for special education in school, and top coaching awards as an adult. I was going to put links in there to special education and top coaching awards but I am an ENTJ. Which means Im very goal-oriented. And what I want you to do right now, before you read about my career as a special ed student, is to sign up for the course. Heres an outline of the course, which I may or may not stick to. But I promise you will learn tons about personality type and youll have a lot of fun. What you get: Everyone will receive course materials, including a link to take a personality type test, and you will receive an explanation of your personality type. And, if you cannot watch the sessions live, you can download the recordings later. Plus, we’ll cover the following topics: Day one: How to Become a Personality Type  Expert Understand your type.  If you understand your own score you will overcome your weaknesses more readily and you will put yourself in positions where you are likely to succeed. Also, you’ll understand so much more about your past because you’ll have a better sense of who you are. Understand other people’s types. It’s actually possible to hear about twenty sentences from someone and get a good sense of their score. And once you get good at that, you feel like a mind reader. It’s incredibly empowering because it allows you to connect with people much faster, and more meaningfully than every before. (This includes your kids. It’s so obvious to me that everyone should use personality type  to parent. I can’t believe it’s not taught at PTA meetings.) Use that information to be an extraordinary communicator.  The key to talking to people so they will listen is understand how they want to hear you. Using personality type information  to guide your communication makes you a better leader, better manager, better collaborator and even a better parent. Day two: Leverage Personality Type  to Make Work Great   Be a better manager by understanding what motivates different types of people.  You can only motivate people by using what they care about, not what you care about. Understanding the difference is essential to being able to lead a wide range of people. Become a star in your career by understanding what truly sets you apart from other people at work.  We underestimate our  standout strengths because they are so natural to us. They come so easily to us that we assume most people have them. The best way to understand how we are special is to understand other peoples’ strengths in the context of our own. This allows us to see how we fit together and how we stand out as well. Recognize your hurdles as a product of your personality type and find new ways around them. Each of use can get to the top of our field if we know what is holding us back. Most people have a sense of their weakness, but weaknesses are paired with strengths, and if you see your weakness as part of your package you’ll understand better how to compensate. Day three: Leverage Personality Type  to Make Your Personal Life Great   Find your best career path. If you’re stuck or you’re looking to change careers, you absolutely should understand the demands of your personality type before you move forward. The best way to make a smart career move is to do it in the context of your strengths within your personality type and what will make you feel fulfilled. For many people fulfillment is a mystery. Believe me: it will not be after this session. Find your best inspiration.  If you surround yourself with people who drain you, you don’t benefit and neither do they. Often, though, we pick people who are familiar to us instead of who is best for us. At work and at home our inspiration comes from our environmentâ€"if it is conducive to our finding fulfillment. Understanding your personality type  is like getting a recipe for creating surroundings that will encourage your fulfillment. Find your best mate.  Really. You can use personality type  to find your best mate. The system totally works. And even if it’s too late to pick a mate based on your personality type, understanding your needs in this context will make you better at getting your needs fulfilled, no matter who you are with. Day four: Ask any question! This will be the day we sort out individual issues with your score or your work or your life. And we will all learn about how other people think by hearing their score and their problems. Buy it now.

Want a Promotion Know Your Worth! - Hire Imaging

Want a Promotion Know Your Worth! - Hire Imaging There are many reasons for wanting a promotion. More money. More leadership. Change. Flexibility. Whatever your reason, it’s okay to directly approach your employer or manager, because you can’t assume that your employer knows your career ambitions. Don’t start a conversation with what you want. Instead, start with what the other person wants. In business, the phrase “Return on Investment” is used to determine how quickly a decision to invest in new technology, marketing, expansion and more will pay off. With an employee (you), the employer is investing in salary, training, benefits, workspace, etc. So, starting off with what your employer wants is a good strategy. The exercise of figuring out your ROI will also serve you well in your career management overall, including job search. What are the main ROIs for an employer? There are 10 key “buying motivators” for employers regardless of the employee’s role: (1) Generate Income, (2) Cut Costs, (3) Save Time, (4) Make Work Easier, (5) Solve a Specific Problem, (6) Contribute to Competitiveness, (7) Build Relationships and a Positive Representation/Image, (8) Expand or Grow Business, (9) Attract New Customers, and (10) Retain Existing Customers. Before working on your ROI, it’s first imperative to know your employer’s objective so that you can align your ROI to it. Do a deep dive into both the employer’s overall mission and the goals for the position you’re targeting. And decipher whether there are differences between what your employer organization wants and what your manager wants. Some thoughts to ponder: What My Employer Wants The competencies summarized by my employer for my targeted position include___________. My employer’s main priorities for my department/team in the short-term and long-term are ___________. Regarding these priorities, specific problem areas to tackle or areas to enhance are ____________. I have already focused on these priorities in my current position by doing _______________. The specific, bottom-line results I have contributed to those priorities include ________________. In my targeted role, I would be able to make additional contributions by __________________. What My Manager Wants If different in some respects from my employer’s wants, my manager’s main priorities or my department/team in the short-term and long-term are __________________. From conversations with others and through observation, it seems my manager could use help with __________________. In a promoted role, I would be able to help my manager by _________________________. My Return on Investment (ROI) Solutions Going back to the ten key buying motivators (ROI solutions), these questions and activities can help you develop ideas that document the ROI you’ve made to your employer: Where have you gone above-and-beyond to set yourself apart from your coworkers? Review prior performance evaluations for ideas or information that document your contributions. Write down the highlights of that material. Educators often use “realia” â€" objects that relate classroom teaching to real life. What “realia” would help your manager see the essence of your contributions? Examples would include products developed, website design, reports written, letters of appreciation from customers or co-workers, and so on. What measurable outcomes have been accomplished through your contributions? Brainstorm beyond your work role to how your team, your manager, your department, your company, your customers, your community, or your industry were affected. If you participated in a team effort, what measurable outcome did the group achieve? Was there a percentage increase in productivity? Did performance exceed goals and expectations? Do the numbers show streamlined process? A solved conflict? Success with a lean team? Revenues? Money saved? A repaired relationship with a key customer? Compare your performance to a variety of numbers, including your prior work performance, the company’s past record, the industry standards, or your competitor’s average. Make sure that in presenting your ROI, you tie back your prior success stories with how you can help your employer or manager in the future. Include prior contributions and future projections. Here’s a sample ROI statement from a Supply Chain professional wanting to move from manager to director: “With me on board with the ABC initiative, precision can recover a minimum of 4 percent per unit, or a $47K cost savings. A look at our inventory of 15,000 units shows a potential $190M savings to the company in just one year.” Whatever it is that you want in a promotion, challenge yourself to reflect on your worth, and how it will enhance your employer’s success! I always love to hear from you! Please comment below.

How Does the Employer See Your Resume?

How Does the Employer See Your Resume? If you are going to be applying for a job at the Wisconsin Employment Development Department (WED) they may require you to use a Northwestern resume writer. These writers are adept at job hunting. They know what works and what doesn't.The idea of Northwestern writing resume is that they create the perfect resume for every job opening. Why would they care how you get to work? Because the companies that hire Northwestern writers are using them because they have the right kind of people to fill the jobs. In the past, Northwestern career graduates would spend a couple months at their local community college trying to find a job they could write a good resume for. Now, these people are getting jobs that pay well enough to take vacations and have a family. This may seem like a great thing to do, but most people can't afford it. What's important is that a Northwestern career graduate knows how to target a certain type of job. Let's take the example of se lling real estate to a mortgage company.Buying a house is a lot easier than selling one. Sure, selling a house involves some stress and emotion, but when it comes down to it, it's pretty simple. If you have a nice house and a nice car, selling a house should be easy. You can sell your house, take a nice pay check and buy a house with a few maintenance issues. So, as you can see, selling a house isn't so much difficult, but it just takes a little bit of selling skills.A mortgage company is just like any other office. The same logic applies. You'll need to be professional in your approach. This means working hard and getting it done in a timely manner. So you have a resume, a business card, and an address you can send all these to the right people. But the job isn't filled. All that's left is to wait for the call at the door at a job fair or networking event. They'll be glad to see you're busy. They'll ask what you're doing and where you went to school and who else they should speak to. You will most likely get a call back from someone who wants to take a meeting with you. You've put some time and effort into the job, and now you've got to find out who the employer is. At that point, you may have to make another visit to Northwestern and you can't keep up with the job market. Then, you don't even have a resume to give them anymore. But if you've been following their recommendations in the Northwest resume writing career, it shouldn't be too difficult.
